Dr. Jyoti Nangalia FMedSci

Jyoti Nangalia, Group Leader at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, has pioneered the use of cutting-edge genomics to advance understanding of blood cancer evolution in patients, directly changing clinical practice. She discovered mutations in the CALR gene revolutionising the diagnosis of myeloproliferative neoplasms that underpin national and international WHO guidelines. Her work exemplifies the power of team science – linking genomic discovery and stem cell biology to diagnostics, prognostics and international clinical standards.

She developed Predict Blood, partnering with the NHS to deliver an NHS-supported medical device with clinician- and patient-facing risk tools, an achievement that required aligning regulation, governance, analytics, technology and communication for a successful partnership.
