Professor John Kelly is the Professor of Pharmacology and the Director of Fujisawa Institute for Neuroscience, University of Edinburgh. He is an outstanding pharmacologist who has made numerous contributions to the study of cholinergic, glutamatergic and serotoninergic neurotransmitter systems. Over the past six years, his group has discovered that G-protein linked receptors for serotonin on neurons of the dorsal raphe nucleus are coupled, through the same G-protein, to the opening of potassium channels and the attenuation of voltage-dependent calcium channels.
