Jernej Ule, Van Geest Professor of Neurodegeneration Research at King’s College London, is internationally recognised for research discoveries in RNA biology, its dysregulation and potential therapeutic opportunities in dementias and related neurodegenerative disorders.
His research focuses on the intricate networks of RNA molecules produced during gene transcription and their interactions with proteins. He has uncovered the complex regulatory mechanisms in neurons, where intricate patterns of RNA processing and localised regulation of mRNA translation contribute to neuronal functions.
Under his Directorship of the UK MRC Dementia Research Institute at Kings College London he has led engagement and partnership with patient groups, clinicians and scientists that exemplifies his collaborative and inter-disciplinary approach to science and its applications to medicine.
