Professor Guy Rutter FMedSci
Guy Rutter is Professor of Cell Biology at Imperial College London. He is a world-leading authority on insulin secretion and blood glucose homeostasis. He has made seminal contributions to knowledge of the molecular and physiological basis of hormone release in animal models and man. His genome-wide association studies for Type 2 diabetes in man established several new genes including STARD10 opening up a completely new personalized medicine approach to diabetes. His work has radically transformed our understanding of β-cell function and is of major translational relevance. His leadership roles in the UK and internationally coupled with his scientific achievements have resulted in seminal advances in our understanding of diabetes and in new approaches to its treatment.
