Graeme Black is Professor of Genomics & Ophthalmology at the University of Manchester. His contributions span the translational spectrum from basic science, through deep understanding of major causes of childhood blindness, to innovative clinical service delivery. By continually embracing and then extending state-of-the art technologies, Professor Black developed the NGS-based diagnostic services that now encompass an increasing number of diseases. In addition to running a top level research lab, he directs a large service organisation with exacting requirements for faultless experimental delivery and complex resource management. He spearheads new technologies, and contributes to major UK and international collaborations.
