Professor Emily Sena FMedSci
Emily Sena, Personal Chair of Meta-science and Translational Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, is a global leader in preclinical meta-research, a field she has helped define. Her pioneering work has transformed how animal research is conducted, reported, and translated into human benefit. She is internationally recognised for advancing medical science through collaborations that span academia, industry, funders, and publishers, founding key infrastructures including the CAMARADES network which provided training, infrastructure, and methodological support for researchers worldwide. Her work also contributes to ethical research practice. By addressing bias and poor design in animal studies, she has directly supported the 3Rs agenda, reducing unnecessary animal use and enhancing welfare.
