Professor David Sharp FMedSci
David Sharp, Professor of Neurology at University College London, has made exceptional contributions to the field of traumatic brain injury bringing state-of-the-art neuroscience to the study of TBI. He has been at the forefront of demonstrating mechanistic links between TBI, neurodegeneration and dementia and has helped establish the UK as a major player in TBI research. He has effectively harnessed expertise of engineers and computer scientists and co-developed an influential computational model that showed a specific pattern of mechanical strain in the brain when sports players lost consciousness. He has links with government and is actively involved at a high level of a range of sporting bodies including the Football Association and Rugby Football Union.
