Daniel Rueckert, Professor of Visual Information Processing at Imperial College London, has made a fundamental contribution to medical imaging. His technique for Image registration using non-rigid deformation models was a key step in the rapid advance of imaging over the last two decades. This was one of the first effective methods successfully used in multiple anatomies, notably the brain, breast, heart and abdomen. His work is used in many fields, stretching from the foetus in utero to Alzheimer’s disease research and clinical trials. He is now developing Artificial Intelligence methods for imaging which will have a major impact in years to come.
