Professor Benjamin Blencowe FMedSci

Benjamin Blencowe is Professor of RNA Biology and Genomics at King’s College London, and Professor of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto. He is a world leader in the study of alternative splicing. By pioneering the development and application of high-throughput RNA profiling and functional genomics technologies, he has identified and characterised entire landscapes of alternative splicing regulation in diverse cell types, species and disease states. His research has further revealed pivotal roles for alternative splicing in the control of stem cell pluripotency and neurogenesis and has also demonstrated how its dysregulation represents a convergent mechanism linked to autism spectrum disorder, opening the door to new therapeutic strategies.
