Professor Beate Kampmann FMedSci

Beate Kampmann is Professor of Paediatric Infection & Immunity at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she also directs the Vaccine Centre. She is a world leader in research on childhood tuberculosis and vaccines to improve global health. She demonstrated that the BCG vaccine not only protects against tuberculosis disease but also infection. The impact of her research and international advocacy on National TB Programs are wide-ranging: her research has resulted in a 50% increase in the detection of childhood TB in The Gambia. Professor Kampmann has also established a platform for immunisation during pregnancy as a tool to decrease neonatal morbidity and mortality.
