Professor Tom Solomon CBE FMedSci
Tom Solomon, Director of Neurological Science at the University of Liverpool, is a national and international leader in emerging infections, particularly those that affect the brain. He has been instrumental in developing strategies to reduce the global burden of neurological infections through strengthened surveillance and diagnostics, better patient management, new treatments, and improved disease control.
He was appointed Director of the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic Infections in 2014, spearheading part of the UK research response to Ebola, Zika and now COVID-19. He has advised WHO, USA and UK Governments and Advisory Committees on Dangerous pathogens for COVID-19 and is an outstanding science communicator.
