The Academy is represented on Department of Health’s Emerging Science and Bioethics Advisory Committee

Status: Ongoing

The Department of Health’s Emerging Science and Bioethics Advisory Committee (ESBAC) is the main UK advisory body on emerging healthcare scientific developments and their ethical, legal, social and economic implications. The Committee is chaired by Sir Alasdair Breckenridge FMedSci.The Academy is represented on ESBAC by Dr Rachel Quinn, Director of Medical Science Policy. 

In addition to a horizon scanning subcommittee, the committee has emerging workstrands addressing:
• Technologies to optimise treatment
• Innovative governance
• Dementia

Membership of this Committee is part of our strategic commitment to horizon scanning.
