Council for Science and Technology
The Council for Science and Technology (CST), sponsored by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS), advises the Prime Minister on strategic issues that cut across the responsibilities of individual government departments. The Council is chaired by Sir Patrick Vallance FRS FMedSci and Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell FRS FMedSci.
The CST work programme is UK wide and developed by its members in discussion with government. Projects are centred on developing, sustaining and promoting excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) research and education in the UK. Recent projects included advice to the Prime Minister in research and innovation and strategic priorities for science and research which fed into the Spending Review.
Members of the Council, appointed by the Prime Minister, are respected senior figures drawn from across the field of science, engineering and technology. The Academy is represented on CST by the President.
Membership of the CST contributes to a number of our strategic commitments.
