In January 2012 the Academy responded to an invitation by Dr Julian Huppert MP to contribute to an update of Liberal Democrat science policy.

The Academy's contribution fed into a policy motion document 'Developing a future: Policies for science and research' presented by Dr Huppert at the Liberal Democrat conference in September 2012, which was passed as official party policy.
