The Government has responded to evidence submitted to its review of the NHS mandate for 2016-17.

Status: Ongoing

The Government has responded to evidence submitted to its review of the NHS mandate for 2016-17.

The Academy provided input to this consultation and the response acknowledged several of the points we raised in relation to research and innovation in the NHS, including:

  • Using the Accelerated Access Review to improve treatment availability.
  • Enabling cost-effective, transformative new diagnostics and treatments to reach patients more quickly.
  • Improving the transparency of processes for approving the adoption of innovative treatments.
  • Strengthening the links between different organisations involved in research, and forging links across the entire life sciences field.

The Academy welcomes this recognition of the value of research to the NHS, and looks forward to continuing to engage with these ongoing developments.
