Science as a public enterprise: keeping science open

In August 2011 the Academy submitted a response to the Royal Society’s consultation - ‘Science as a public enterprise: keeping science open’.

The response explored the issues surrounding sharing of scientific data. In particular, our response focussed on the unique issues relating to medical science data. The response covered the different types of data shared, and the benefits that data sharing can bring. The response also addressed the need to protect the confidentiality of patient data, whilst allowing research using this data to bring numerous healthcare benefits.
