The Academy’s Annual Fellows’ Meeting took place on Tuesday 2 December and included the AGM, a policy project showcase and the annual Jean Shanks Lecture.
The AGM was attended by over 60 Fellows. Presentations were given by the President, Treasurer and Executive Director.
Formal items of business were as follows:
1. The minutes of the Annual General Meeting on 21 November 2013 were approved.
2. It was agreed to invite Dr Dennis Gillings CBE; Professor Lisa Jardine CBE and Professor Peter Doherty FRS to become Honorary Fellows of the Academy.
3. The results of the 2014 Council elections were announced. We are pleased to confirm that the following Fellows will be joining the Academy Council in 2015:
Professor Jonathan Ashmore FRS FMedSci, University College London
Professor Jane Norman FMedSci, University of Edinburgh
Professor Sir Michael Owen FMedSci FLSW ,Cardiff University
Sir Michael Rawlins FMedSci, Chairman, MHRA
4. The audited accounts for 2013/14 were agreed and BDO LLP were appointed as auditors for 2014/15.
5. It was agreed that there would a small inflation-indexed adjustment in the Fellows’ subscription rates for 2015/16.

Following the AGM, Fellows and guests enjoyed a session showcasing the Academy’s current policy project work. Brief presentations on the projects were given by working group chairs:
Dame Anne Johnson: Health of the public 2040
Professor Anne Ridley: Team science
Professor Dorothy Bishop: Research reproducibility
The afternoon finished with the 2014 Jean Shanks Lecture, Dining out with friends: the intestinal microbiome in health and disease, presented this year by Professor Fiona Powrie, Director, The Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford.
