Career development events

We run events and workshops across the UK to help biomedical researchers develop a productive research career. A key element of all these events is the chance to build links with the Fellows of the Academy.

Regional career development events:

At these events you will

  • Learn about local/national funding and career development initiatives.
  • Understand how to collaborate more effectively with your peers and senior colleagues.
  • Discuss practical tips for success.
  • Understand how to apply for competitive fellowships.
  • Network with senior academics from across disciplines.

Unless otherwise stated, all biomedical researchers (both clinical and non-clinical) are welcome to attend.

Regional events in 2016:

Skills workshops

These workshops are an excellent opportunity to delve deeply into the practical skills which are essential for successful research careers. Expert facilitators work with small groups to explore, for example:

  • Modern developmental mentoring - how, what and why?
  • Effective communication and presentations.

Fellows' discussion dinners

The Academy hosts a variety of events where biomedical researchers can network with Academy Fellows. Our discussion dinners include an evening drinks reception followed by a research talk, discussion and three course dinner. They are held at the Academy of Medical Sciences headquarters at 41 Portland Place, London W1B 1QH.

These dinners are for Academy Fellows and their guests. On a trial basis, we are offering a small number of FREE places at each dinner for postdoctoral biomedical researchers. See our events listing for forthcoming dinners.

Supper Clubs

Supper Clubs bring together Academy Fellows and biomedical researchers working in a particular area of research for an informal and engaging discussion. Supper Clubs are held across the UK and are hosted by one or two Academy Fellows.

Supper Clubs are by invitation only.
