Eighteen new Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers awarded

The Academy is delighted to announce the names of 18 Clinical Lecturers who were awarded through Round 17 of the Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers scheme. Awardees included clinicians in human and dental medicine with a wide range of clinical specialities. We were especially pleased that 11 of the Starter Grants in Round 17 were awarded to female researchers and one award to a General Practitioner, the second since the scheme started.

The Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers scheme has now supported 387 research-active clinicians, conducting a broad spectrum of health-related research, with grants totalling nearly £11 million. It offers funding of up to £30,000 to cover the cost of research consumables. The grants allow research-active Clinical Lecturers in human, dental and since 2016, veterinary medicine, to gather data to strengthen their bids for longer-term fellowships and funding.

The next round is currently open for applications and will close on 15 September 2017.

For more information on the names of the new awardees, eligibility and how to apply, please see the Academy's Starter Grants webpage.
